Rallynuts Stages Rally supports Woodland Trust in Wales with competitor donations

The Rallynuts Stages Rally has made a donation of £650 to the Woodland Trust after the April 15 event encouraged competitors to make a voluntary contribution to the upkeep of woodland in Wales.

The Builth Wells-based forest event saw 118 competitors take part in the highly regarded stages rally with crews tackling over 44 stage miles in the forests of Myherin, Hafren and Sarnau.

With competitors from a wide range of championships including contenders from the MRF Tyres BTRDA Rally Series and Motorsport UK Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship, it attracted some of the best loose surface drivers in the country to the region for the rally.

In its 49th year, the Midland Manor Motor Club organised rally pledged to recognise the impact on the environment and launch a commitment to contribute to helping local woodland, trees, and wildlife areas to be maintained and looked after by the charity, Woodland Trust in Wales.

This donation has directly assisted in the conservation of woodland in the area of the event, with the Trust working with landowners to enable trees to be planted and existing woodland areas to be maintained.

Keith Ashley, Clerk of the Course, maintains that the donation is the first of many practices by the event to reduce its environmental impact.

“The contribution to the Woodland Trust has been made voluntarily by competitors, who recognise that as a sport, we need to do more to work towards reducing our footprint,” he said.

“We felt it was important to keep the contribution in the local region too, with Wales of course being one of the most popular locations for rallying in the UK and helping to maintain the woodland that is so vital to our sport was a key factor for us.”

“Whilst only a small step, we will continue to work with our stakeholders and partners to look at ways to further reduce the impact the rally has on the environment going forward into 2024 and beyond. Next year’s event will take place on Saturday 13th April and planning is well underway to make the 50th event something special.”
